How to change your Facebook profile picture

On Facebook, your profile picture is the picture that displays next to your name around Facebook. It's the image that represents yourself throughout Facebook. It's how people recognize you. This article shows you how to add or change your profile picture on Facebook. 

How to change your Facebook profile picture

Step 1: Go to Facebook and log into your account.

Step 2: Click your name in the upper-left corner to go to your profile page.

Step 3: Hover your mouse over your profile picture.

Step 4: Click Update Profile Picture or Add Photo if you haven't added any picture yet.

Step 5: Now you can:

1. Click Upload Photo to choose a photo from your computer. 
2. Click Add Frame to add a frame to your current profile picture or other picture that you want
3. Choose a photo below  
4. Select a photo you've uploaded or a photo you're tagged in to set as your profile picture.

Step 5: 

If you choose Upload Photo, select a photo you want as your profile picture and click Open.

If you choose Add Frame, select a frame you want to add to your profile picture, drag to reposition it and click Use as Profile Picture. You can add a frame to another picture by clicking Change Picture in the upper-right corner.

Step 6: Drag to reposition your photo and use the slide at the bottom to change its size. The part inside the square will be your profile picture.

Optionally, you can click Edit to apply filters, texts, stickers, or frames to your photo. You can also add a description to the photo. 

If you want to make this profile picture temporary, click Make Temporary and select when you want the picture to expire. This photo will become your temporary profile picture. It will automatically revert back to your current profile picture until whenever you wish.  

Step 7: Click Save.

To change your profile picture without notifying everyone or if you don't want to show this update publicly:

Step 1: Go to your profile page and click on your profile picture.

Step 2: Click the down arrow under your name.

Step 3: Select Only me from the drop-down menu.
