What is Focus Status in iMessage on iPhone?
What Is Focus Mode on iOS?
Focus Mode is a relatively recent iOS feature, introduced for iOS on Sept. 15, 2021. Its main objective is to help you reduce distractions. The function is ideal for times when you need to focus on work, are busy operating a vehicle, or desire a peaceful night's sleep. By activating this option, you can stop being interrupted or distracted by notifications.
You can design your own unique Focus Mode in addition to the standard Do Not Disturb, Sleep, Work, and Personal Focus Modes.
There is a lot of versatility in focus mode. You can choose which contacts and apps are still permitted to give you notifications when you are concentrating. You will be able to receive critical calls, time-sensitive notifications, and emergency notifications. Your Focus Modes can be shared throughout your iOS devices and scheduled, automated, or both.
What is Focus Status on iPhone?
In addition to filter notifications based on the current task, Focus Mode has additional features, namely Focus Status. What exactly is this infamous Focus Status that you've waited so long to discover?
The Focus status on iPhone lets users mute notifications and calls from others. You can turn it on and off easily. You can share your focus status so that your contacts know that you are busy.
Using "Share Focus Status" on your iPhone or iPad, anyone texting you will know that you're in a Focus mode and can proceed with their conversation. In Focus (also known as Do Not Disturb), all notifications and phone calls are muted.
Focus Mode, unlike DND in iOS 14, notifies others that you have muted notifications.
When someone attempts to send you an iMessage while you are in one of the Focus Modes, a Focus Status will appear on their screens to indicate that "you have muted notifications." In addition to the Focus Status, they will also have the option to "Notify Anyway." If they select this option, the notification will be delivered regardless of the Focus Mode setting.
Even though the Focus Status informs others that you have a Focus Mode enabled, it does not reveal its name. Therefore, they are unaware of the precise nature of the Focus Mode you are currently employing.
You will receive the Focus Status notification as soon as they choose to notify you. If not, the notification will be delivered alongside the other notifications you missed during Focus Mode.
How to share your Focus status on iPhone
Through the Share feature, you can alert folks in advance that you are in Focus mode. When this is turned on, compatible apps will monitor your focus state and promptly notify anyone trying to text you.
Anyone who initiates a conversation with you via Messages, for instance, will notice a warning that you have "notifications suppressed." They can then choose to ignore your Focus and inform you anyway or send you a text message knowing it will be muted, or both.
Thus, allowing Share also provides a way for users to disregard your Focus mode. If you must have all of your notifications muted, keep that in mind.
3 Steps to share your Focus status on iPhone and iPad
To turn on the Share feature, you'll need to head to the Focus settings menu.
1. Open the Settings app and tap Focus.
2. Select the Focus mode that you want to enable sharing for, and tap Focus Status on the page that appears.
3. Tap the Share Focus Status switch at the top of the page to enable it. When it's flicked to the right, it's on.
How to Turn Off Focus Status
On your Apple iOS 15 smartphone, sharing your Focus Status is the default setting. Although the openness is excellent, you might not want to keep everyone in the loop. Simply turning off your Focus Status will enable you to use Focus Mode in private. Access your Focus Status settings to do that:
1. Go to your Messages app.
2. Open your chat with the contact you want to silence.
3. Toggle "Share Focus Status" off by clicking on their profile. As they won't see the "Notify Anyway" option, these contacts won't be able to get around the restriction.
You can also enable Focus Status sharing for select contacts in the same way.
